Composite on alpha following animation?
by andre salters on Feb 8, 2004 at 11:47:31 am
I'm using BCC snow in AE to suggest falling autumn leaves. With works reasonably well, choosing the color from a colorful leaves source layer,
When I choose a layer for alpha compositing, bcc picks the alpha from the source material ignoring current position, scale (animation-parameters).
What is the way to go if you want to follow alpha in motion?
Thanks for you attention,

TRy pre-comping the layer that is acting as the alpha map......as most filters in AE do, I'm sure that BCC looks at the layer PRIOR to transformations for it's map....when you precomp in AE you have to select the option that moves all of the info to the new comp.....not the one that leaves all info in the present comp.....a lot of filters in AE work in this same manner....one that comes to mind is the displacment map...oh yeah texturize also works this way.

Sorry I got things mixed up, but you're answer does the trick anyway.
When you use a solid for the effect with alpha, and then choose your composite layer, you also need to precompose that layer to make it work.
Then I needed a trickmat to get the leaves (snow) around a walking figure (not exactly what I wanted, but anyway interesting)
