 | 1024x576 footage
by Timbo on Mar 10, 2005 at 3:31:43 pm |
Hi,
just been using a pdx10 from which the imported widescreen footage shows as 1024x576 (PAL). This edits fine in Premiere but what do i do to get it in to Encore which only accepts 720x576? If i shrink it to a 720x576 composition will it blow up to normal 16:9 on a widescreen TV or will i get 4:3 with bars top and bottom?
Thanks in advance,
Tim

What pixel aspect ratio are you working with? It sounds like you need to convert your 1024x576, square pixel footage to 720x576, 1.422 (PAL widescreen) pixel footage. Premiere can do this on export if you change the settings.
If the footage is in the correct pixel aspect ratio, the DVD player will handle sizing the footage correctly (and adding letterbox bars as necessary) for 4:3 and 16:9 televisions.

Hi,
1024x576 is what's come out of the camera - i'm not 100% on the specs of the camera so it might be shooting square pixels - it just seems odd to me! I'll try exporting from Premiere at 1.422 and see what happens. Thanks for the reply.

What camera are you using? What format? How are you capturing?

Hi,
Camera is Sony PDX10. Firwire into Canopus Raptor RT (Canopus codec) capture with Canopus EZVideo before importing the .avi's into Premiere 6.5. Premiere project as Canopus 16:9 shows the .avi's as 1024x576.
Thanks,
Tim

Aha. So Canopus is what is resampling the image into square pixels. Yeah, export out of Premiere as 720x576, 1.422 pix and you should be fine.

Hi Timothy,
thanks very much for your help - didn't know that my Canopus kit squared out the pixels.
Thanks again,
Tim
