I am creating DVD's with only 12 minutes of information on them. How can I get this to look awesome instead of the encoded compressed splotchy look that Encore turns things into when it encodes them?

Before we determine that Encore is the problem let us know what encoder settings you are using. It might also help to know the nature of your 12 minute video. Is there a lot of action, just talking heads, a combination of the two?

I also believe that you're limited by the DVD spec to 8 Mbps or something... please confirm this, someone!

Thanks,

The maximum bit rate for video plus audio is 9.8Mb/s. This would be okay for a replicated/pressed disc, but many players will choke on this bit rate if they have to read from a burned DVD. For writable DVDs it is recommended to use a bit rate for the MPEG-2 video of no more than 7Mb/s together with compressed audio, or 5.5Mb/s should you be using uncompressed audio.

I would agree with roadkill. I have video that looks great at those settings. What kind of video are you putting into you machine?
