 | How much does RAM matter with Encore
by Joshua Weiss on Oct 5, 2004 at 3:35:16 pm |
My system is a dual 3.06 xeon system with 1 gig of ram. I use a VT3 system by newtek for editing. To use my edited files from VT3 in encore, I basically just save my file as an avi file. VT3 doesn't actually make my edited project into a single avi, it compresses the timeline information in a way that it can be used as an AVI. This helps avoid having to render it out to a certain file format.
The problem with this is that Encore freezes up when I try converting one of these avi files to a timeline. Is this because the ram?

Think of AVI as a wrapper of sorts. The common format for DVD authoring is MPEG-2. Forf whatever reason, it doesn't like the AVI you have. Perhaps part of it is a reference type file, with a reference missing or who knows what.
I would try exporting to MPEG2 before going to Encore. Should solve the problem.

I had trouble trying to import some AVI files - then realised they were Type 1 DV not Type 2 - make sure you're not trying to import type 1 files, because I don't think Encore likes 'em too much.
