advanced button highlights

is it possible to create highlights for buttons so that they have (or appear similar) to the add/darken transfer modes rather than just having a colour overlay. I realise this could possibly be done by using a video thumbnail but wondered if anyone had attempted something like this. I also wanted to know how to use alpha channels from photoshop to create button highlights, I succeeded in ReelDVD with no problems but havent tried this yet in encore.

Hi Matt-
The DVD spec only allows a basic color overlay for subpicture highlights, so doing transfer mode style transparency isn't possible. The best I could suggest would be to set up the highlight with the transfer mode, use the color picker to find out what color it is, then set up a highlight without the transfer mode that is that color naturally. That will only really work when overlaying one color, though.
Regarding alpha channels, what specifically do you want to do with them? Since Encore is so closely tied with Photoshop, just about anything you can do with alpha channels there Encore will pick up on.

A nice video tutorial on creating subpicture highlighting for Encore in Photoshop ("Highlight Colors - The Low-Down on Subpictures") is available at adobeevangelists.com: Adobe Encore DVD.
