Hi Jason,
If you connect your digiBeta directly to your BM card, no external sync source is needed.
You have to switch your Digi to get it's output ref from video-in (on a DVW-500P It's called OUPUT-REF, a little swich on the pull-out panel under the audio metering section) Otherwise your mointor will start 'walking' during recording (the signal recorded to tape will be fine by the way)
If 'servo ref' is set to auto in the Digi setupmenu, the Digi will atomatically sync to SDI input, when no extarnal ref is connected. (check on the backside of your recorder, pull it out if needed :)
If your Digi is connected via a router or switch, then all appliances have to be connected to the same refsignal. So the signal coming from the BBgenerator, has to be splitted (preferably by an active video-splitter) and connected to genlock in of the BM card, REF in of the Digi and REF in of the switch.
So, it's either no BBgenerator, or BB to all interconnected appliances.
Here we connect 6 FCP stations and an Inferno to 3 DigiBeta's using a Pesa SDI router. All the machines are provided with blackburst from one single BBgenerator, splitted with a 1in-8out active 'Video-brick'. So from the machine-room there are 4 cables to each editing room. SDI in, SDI out, RS and Blackburst. Works fine!
Hope this helped you out a bit, sorry if my post post is ull of info you may already know :)
goodluck.
