I read in some posts, that FCP doesn't output frame flag information of a 24p project back to the HD1200A over firewire. So it's not possible to use the 1080/24 upconversion of the vtr anymore. Is that true?
That is true. We're still waiting and waiting for news from Apple and Panasonic as to why this is not working. It's specifically mentioned as a feature in the FCP 4.5 HD "What's new" manual, and is one of those "must have" features that is missing at the moment.
Would it be a solution to use a decklink HD card and output the project to the HD1200A over HD-SDI?
We do what you suggest, and upconvert and mosquito noise reduct with Algolith in order to produce rather stunning 1080p24 material, even from DVCPRO HD material which has been compresed.
Is the upconversion Quality of the HD1200A good?
Yes, it's splendid. It's the same converter chips as the Universal Format Converter from Panasonic, the 1700, 3700 decks and is good quality. Algolith does have advantages, and our tests have shown that it reaches far higher sharpness, and also removes mosquito noise in the images.
But yeah, getting 720p24 over 60 to work would be cool. :)
