I spoke with John Abt in the AJA booth today. Trade in price is $1,549 for all Kona SD users and Free for all Kona HD users.
The Kona 2 looks really really good. I went and looked at some of the product running and it's a very very clean and powerful tool. With SD and HD on the same card, they now join CineWave as the only products that can do both on just one card. That's a huge advantage over two cards because it's all in one slot, one card. Also, the HD is 10bit vs the 8bit on CineWave so that is a really nice thing that AJA has pulled off there.
This NAB has been just crazy with Apple leading the charge, then AJA releases Kona 2 and Pinnacle CineWave 4.6! These three companies are totally setting the standard for editing and it sounds like I'm going to be getting some interesting news from the Aurora folks tomorrow. Good times for FCP editors!
