Hmmmm, now you're on to something there Chris. Make it modular! This actually makes me re-think everything now. You could start with the chasis like you said and the main I/O module that connects to the Kona SD/HD card. A little off topic, AJA could also make a snake that connects to the BOB and the Kona card... three SDI, one 15-pin, one RCA all wrapped up in one cable. Just an option... one could still use multiple cables.

You're speaking of software based trim pots, T/C outside of RS-422, etc., but to make these work with the BOB, there would need to be some type of connection to the G4 outside of the Kona's built-in connectivity. The only/best solution I see for this is USB. And if USB is required, throw it in the AJA snake too! =)

[Chris Cooke-Johnson] "I thought I HAD included switchable component"

You did, I was just adding it to my list of things to add to my BOB mock up. But if the idea is modular (and I like that) then I'd have to start over on the mock up, and I don't think that's going to happen any time soon! Unless AJA pays me or gives me a loaded BOB in the end, ha ha! =)

[Chris Cooke-Johnson] "Your market is Kona and Voodoo users and anyone else who only has SDI (dunno who else makes SDI-only cards...)"

Not necessarily. Let's say someone buys or has either an Aurora Igniter RT system with SDI I/O only or a likewise Cinewave RT SDI system. This gives them the option to buy something pretty trick like this over what their manufacturer has for them. They also gain extra SDI I/O at the very least.

I like this modular idea more and more. One could buy the base system with the chasis and main Kona I/O card. Then they could get exactly what they need for their edit suite. Each module could be two-part... a PCI style card that slips in to the "mother board" and a front face that has things like trims and meters for the analog audio cards. Oh man, this would be cool!

John, Ted, what do you guys think of all this?
