[Jöran Maaswinkel] "When we where thinking about this issue we got the warning that pointed us to the bad blocks errors on ATA drives. "

Are we talking about adaptive sector remapping? Both systems, SCSI and SATA are using it. There is only _ONE_ important benchmark: Sustained datarate while random access write & read to the array. The Xserve has a whoppin 512 MBy Cache and is able to handle such stuff quite good, even if its overpriced IMHO.
