Jo,
We use the Canopus ADVC-100 to convert analog NTSC to DV for offline on our Powerbook. At this point CineWave doesn't have an acceptable SD offline capability. This isn't something that's been overlooked or not considered important. Today other cards on the market use the G4 system processors to compress and decompress offline video material, but CineWave was designed at a time when the average PowerMac ran at 433Mhz so another approach (scaling) was used to produce offline material. Now that we're on OS X and most PowerMacs are dual processors running over 1Ghz I'm sure this issue will be revisited. In the meantime the Canopus solution I mentioned works really well. At less that 11GB per hour DV is quite an effective offline solution for uncompressed D1 projects.
