Joe MurrayRe: Broken SDI delay-A long sad tale

I was in the middle of a production and was hiring in Digi Beta decks by the day. This was my only way to check the SDI output, as I didn't have an SDI monitor at the time. The input was working fine for digitising but the output didn't seem to work. As I was new to Cine'wave and had faith that anything new would have been thoroughly tested, I did not rule out user error. The deck hire was eating into our budget and we had a tight delivery schedule for broadcast. We were already behind as Cancom, who sold it to us, had promised to send it preconfigured and tested but then renaiged and just sent a bunch of boxes. This set us back another two days setting it all up.
I reported the fault to them at the time but they said that there was no longer anyone at the company that could support the product! Their answer was to get me to call a premium rate support line (in Holland) after holding for 15 minutes, the guy I spoke to hadn't even heard of Cine'wave and certainly could help. (This was before I knew about this invaluable forum)
Unsurprisingly I gave up in disgust and used the component outputs to get my programme cut to tape for broadcast.
It wasn't until November that I bought and SDI monitor and could spend a relaxed amount of time trouble shooting. When I was convinced that the fault lay with the hardware I took it back to Cancom but they told me to get lost, as it was (1 Week) "out of warranty."
They suggested I contact Pinnacle UK, which I did and was just given the premium rate number again - MY HEART SANK!!!

Very Frustrating as you can imagine as I will probably have to foot the bill for a repair then drag Cancom through court for compensation under Sale of Goods Act…….the saga continues
