I think that much of this has to do with marketing. I actually heard about a KONA guy doing a demo talking about the film cold mountain. It's odd. Murch used Aurora cards with Cold mountain because it was the only was to do 24 frame content when he started cutting. Then Apple does an add about cold mountain and the FCP system has an AJA box attached to it. It's just how things come into people pysche.

For example, I was on Marco Solorio's site today, looking at the various codec offerings. HIs tests have proven that Aurora's 8-bit drivers are the cleanest in the industry. Their 8-bit stuff looks better than other 10-bit offerings.

They don't go around telling everyone that they sell to thte Lucas Ranch and that The Simpsons use Aurora, it's just not their style. they seem to be more no nonsense. they also tend not to release stuff until it's ready. So this is why I think that their HD offering will be a first class product. (when and if it ships)
