Mike,
In order to do what I think you want to do (which is to get the best possible graphics to DVD) then you can still use the XL1 as your camera. First off there is a big concern with what happens to Graphics in the 4:1:1 color space (they get the same 5:1 compression teh DV source gets)
Here is a possible workaround IF PRESERVING GRAPHICS IS YOUR AIM.
Aquire footage in DVCAM or MINI DV
Use igniter to capture that footage in the 4:2:2 (either in Uncompressed or 1.5 o 1 compression)
Create all graphics in the 4:2:2 color space and then export the final movie for MPEG 2 encoding.
Under normal circumstances I would ecomend staying inteh 4:1:1 color space, but since you want to preserve graphic quality I would do it the way I described above. Yor DV footage will gainthe benefit of Real time colour correction and you will not Notice a gigantic quality loss if you capture in 1.5 to 1 or higher.
