Sebastian,
There is no way to set a duration in Project properties and I think the best thing to do is create a text track and drag it out to a duration you want, say 20 seconds and then move your out point to the end of tat track. Voila, you have a 20 second project now. Then yo ucan delete the track and work within that speace. I think the livetype default is 6 seconds but I am not sure where that parameter is set.
