[Rich Rossi] "but I'm concerned that by using the "pro" versions of soundtracks versus the "multimedia" versions, I'm limiting the amount of space available"

There is a size difference between the Pro and Multimedia (typically about twice the size). However, if you place a 22k track into a 48k project it is upsampled to 48k when you render. This process causes it to be roughly the same size as the Pro version. Therefore there is no appreciable difference in size between the two tracks. You can save a little space, but not as much as it might appear.

It is recommended that you use the Pro quality if the project will be played on a good sound system or at high volumes. If the project is for the web or will be played on a computer, the multimedia version is sufficient.
