Ok I think I followed this. I changed the name of my account back to its original name. I noticed that the short name, which is not changeable in the Accounts dialog box, matches the name of the user folder in the finder. This user folder has a house (home) icon next to its name. It’s the account I have been using for the last year. So far so good. I think. So I actually didn’t change anything with the name changes in the accounts dialog box? When I logged in with whatever name I gave, I still had access to everything that was there, so I guess I’m ok.
Now I’m still confused about the folders on my hard drive that are not within any user account folder. Can I just drag them into my user account folder?
I ignored all of this when I got started on OS X and I guess I’m paying the price for that now.
