Mr EgoRamp Y animation HELP!!

moo all

i have a ramp(U) applied to color on a cylinder. i want to animate the Y translation of the ramp seperate from the clinder's Y translation. Can i connect a place3d texture node to a ramp?? what would i connect?? or how else can i do it... i dont know alot about maya's shading nodes and the connection editor yet.

please help - ta
