Thanks Sean. I put the conserve back up to 1. Set the lifespan to Constant with a setting of zero. I went back to the beginning. The particles disappeared. I set the particles back to live forever and reset the timeline. All the particles reappeared the way they used to be (from the set initial state).
At this point, I just erased the particles and am trying from scracth. Which brings up the point, Does Alias have a good reason not to have a 'clear initial state' command?
