Thanks again Steve. By complex objects I mean any polygon object that isn't a basic polygon primitive. This can be imported objects, objects created by extruding a closed curve, polygons objects created from displacment maps, etc. I just can't get these types of objects to boolean with others. For example, create a close CV curve, convert it to a planar polygon surface, and extrude all the faces by a distance. Then try to intersect this object with an intersecting cylinder, sphere, box, etc. It simply won't work. It looks like the boolean feature in Maya is quite buggy.
