Howdy from Texas,

Hands down, the *best* little Canon one-chip DV camcorder is the Optura Pi. It has optical image stabilization, a progressive scan CCD, and a secret weapon called an RGB filter which approximates the look of a three-chip (no kidding). Plus a nice, fairly wide 12x glass.

Originally it was $1600 but prices have really fallen since it's been discontinued and replaced by the new Optura 100MC. I have seen the Pi at reputable dealers for about $1000. Get one while you can; when they're gone, they're gone. In my opinion the newer 100MC is not as good as the older Pi. Now is an excellent time to get the Pi, don't wait as they are becoming scarce by the day. Hope this helps,
