well, for starters, let's check out what several BOSFCPUG members who bought the GL2 have to say

The Optura PI is one heck of a camera! In fact, don't sell it, keep it. Whatever you do, never sell that puppy. The Canon Optura PI, because of the outstanding feautures it introduced the DV community to: durable metal casing, large LCD flip-out screen, a true progressive scan CCD, RGB color filtering, advanced accessory shoe and of course quality optics, it will be forever known as one of the top 10 classic miniDV camcorders of the past decade.
While the GL1 defined the word "HandyCam" when it first was introduced to DV filmmakers back in the late 90's with it's LCD flip-out screen, extreme optical zoom range, unbeatable Optical Image Stabilization,
30fps Frame Mode (and not a limited 15fps progressive scan), real-time analog pass-through, etc,,, the GL1 to many offered the CanonDV look of the XL1 in a smaller form factor and lower price. The GL2 now re-defines the word "HandyCam" with it's true pixel-shift technology, 1.7mp 3-CCD chipset, super-clean gain & electronics,,, with the GL2 you will notice a significant increase in resolution, light sensitivity, zoom range, color detail, complete customization of the look you want with memory preset and more, not to mention 1.7megapixel progressively-scanned still images on the SD memory card. Think of the GL2 as essentially having an XL1S with a fixed 20X Optical zoom in a handycam form factor with 1.7megapizel progressively-scanned still image capture.
All in all, you need to check out the camera and compare it to the other cameras out there and decide which features are most important for your needs. I say that while the GL2 is more affordable than the VX2000, it certainly offers more highly-useable features.
Keep in touch,,, and keep it positive!
