Carl AmoscatoChange color of a signature
by on Jan 31, 2005 at 9:06:09 pm

Hi All,

I'm primarily an Avid editor, so go easy on me. :)

I've got a .pdf file with a signature on it. I used Photoshop to cut the signature out of the .psd and isolate it from the white background, leaving the signature on a transparent background.

When I bring it into Avid (Media Composer Adrenaline 1.6 on PC) and matte key it over video, it looks pretty good considering the source and my limited PS skills.

Now my producer has asked me to change the signature from black to yellow, and that's where I'm stumped. In Photoshop, I can use the magic wand to try and select the signature, but there are so many different levels of black that it'd take forever to select it all. I tried selecting the transparent background, and inversing that, but I couldn't get all the little spaces in the letters (the centers of "o"'s and cursive lower case "l"'s, and that sort of thing) so when I try and paint it yellow it paints inside the letters where it's supposed to be transparent.

I'd appreciate any ideas or suggestions. If there are any Avid editors lurking here who can think of a way to do this in Avid, that'd be fine, too. :)

thanks,
Carl
