Good point...I'm reading the same thing. It looks as if I may have made the wrong choice. I guess I got the Beta of DVD burners. From what I read the new multi format is backwards compatible (i.e. guaranteed compatibility with -r/-rw discs burned on current and older models.
I also assume that +r/+rw discs will still work on some of the new Multi players at their current rate of compatibility. That is unless the Multi people are making a concerted effort to make the +R/+RW discs not work at all. Given this new development, I'd stay clear of +R/+RW.
