Heuris is certainly more expensive than BitVice. I have never had any problems with technical support from Heuris, but that is certainly a valid concern.

I run Heuris on a dedicated system so encoding speed has never been a big issue for me. I generally set all the compression parameters for maximum quality, launch the encode, and then wait a few hours. On a dual 800 Mhz P4 system it usually takes about 20 minutes to encode 1 minute of video.
