A little late to post on this one but might help others later. I encode with Main Concept in Vegas at 7500 peak and 5000 average. This gives me 1 hour 40 minutes with uncompressed PCM audio. I can't see any difference at this setting when playing from my DVD player to playing it directly from DV tape. It you encode at 6000 peak 4000avg you will get 2 hours with PCM audio. At this 2 hour setting you will notice occasionally a slight lowering of quality but still acceptable. Main Concept is the best encoder I have seen so far.
