Hmmmm, does Win2K have msconfig?
Try typing in msconfig in the "Run" text box and see if it comes up. msconfig allows one to select which applications run on boot up. I'm not real familiar with it but that is my understanding.

If someone can tell you which programs are essential for win2K to run, then maybe boot up with only those. If successful, add programs half at a time and find the bad one(s) by process of elimination.

That is about the extent of my limited knowledge of msconfig.
