making video look like newsreel?

Hi everyone,

I've posted this question in a few other forums, so I'm sorry if you end up reading this twice.

I'm putting together a sort of "this is your life" dvd for a friend's 50th birthday. I'd like it to have that WWII newsreel feel, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. I'm shooting the footage on a pd-150 and I'll be using FCP3 to edit; unfortunately, I don't have After Effects. Any suggestions on what I might do to achieve this look?
