Thanks John and the others who responded also.

John, you said: "If you can stage your shot so that you're looking into the shade, then you can use the nets to control the bright backlight on your subject and your frame with a grifflin to reflect the sun into their face as a key or fill. This is a very pleasent look!"

Will the net still assist in situations where I am not able to shoot into the shade? I will probably be shooting with the water of a lake in the background and at other times shooting white rocks and relics with the sun gleaming off them while the talent is in the foreground.
