I use both, and the AVID is a much better experience in editing for me. The timeline is more responsive (on a slower system than the Premiere system I work on); it's easier to maintain sync; it's handling of source media and projects is better, and more disaster proof. All around, just more reliable, and that's enough for me.

Premiere does have a better title tool. The system I use has a Matrox RTX100, so rendering is cut to a minimum, which is nice, but I honestly feel I lose so much time in just editing in Premiere, that I'd rather just render and be faster in the cutting process. The Matrox adds pretty good colour correction, though. Not better than Xpress DV, but different.

My two cents...

PS. What's hard about trim mode? You should try the one in Premiere if you think AVID's is hard, though I'll bet most don't even bother with it.
