Deck Configuration -Help Please!!

I have searched past posts and tried all suggestions--- maybe I am missiong something that is obvious please help if you can---
Xpress DV 3.5
XP Professional
Canapus ADC 100
BVW 40 Beta Deck (Have also tried 9800)
Avid blessed cable.

System sees DV devices with no problem.
Will not recognize Deck using RS422.

Upon setup in Deck Configuration I choose Direct and it gives me a choice of com1 or com3--- com1 is being used by another device so I choose Com3.

Digitize tool says "no deck"---- Have tried check decks, etc.

I am STUMPED.

Could it be some com setting on the computer itself????
Please help if you can.
