I bought a second system last year to do pretty much the same thing as you want to do. It's an LE/DV running on a 400 mhz G4 with a 30 gig HD, 576 Ram. There is no external drive. I use the internal drive that came in the Mac. It works just fine dig-ging at 80 Kb. Edits flawlessly. I source from both BCAM SP and DVCAM using the firewire. HTH.
