But wait...if you compare their "claims" of the system's abilities and compare it to an AVID or the Affinity, this system could even rock the smoke* world. I think it sounds terrific.
Look, the whole world was watching and waiting for what the streaming apps and hardware would bring to our homes, how they might change our lives. Media 100 has finally realized that still too much infrastructure on the delivery side must be built for any significant changes to come. Actually, perhaps the satellite TV systems have been the biggest deal in delivery of content, in giving the cable companies a run for their lives.
Again, by selling off software-only products, and probably having stripped out a lot of code in the process, I think the whole idea of Media 100 working on this "secret" system since 1998 is kind of trick. While we were bashing their severely limited 2-layer system, they were R&D-ing the next biggest system in our industry.
$50,000 for a turn-key system? Not bad. If it does what they say, it's a bargain. That's right, a bargain. We're talking about an AVID with several realtime uncompressed streams working at once. It might even give AfterEffects a run.....I certainly would love to build my 4-8 layer composites in a realtime system that I can watch on my NTSC monitor. It's what we, all over the world, have been asking for, as of yet no one has delivered, and it's just around the corner.
A bargain I say, for $50,000. Now show me a screen-shot!
