Installing Pro only rewrote your QT preferences, so I'd suspect something is corrupting the preferences file. (Pro only unlocks features in the Player stub application and doesn't affect QT as used by Media 100 et al).
As to why something's corrupting your QT, I've got no idea. Although I would not expect -1409 to be a QT error (they're usually between -2000 and -2999)
