How to make M100 8.1 more responsive

Like others I've noticed the new software is quite slugish when moving between modes (from edit clip to edit pgm for example might take 4 sec.) Is this due to not having enough memory (only 512Meg is allowed right now -to keep the system from crashing)? Will a faster computer help? (I've a 733mhz mac) futre software versions improve this?
