Not fragile. Its one of the camera's better points.

BUT... you are wise to want to CHECK it out.

Shooting inside, under normal room lighting (so the iris is wide open) set lens to MANUAL focus, zoom IN all the way and carefully adjust the focus.
Now, Zoom all the way WIDE and see if the shot STAYS in focus (if it does, the Back-Focus is OK.)

Carefully LISTEN as you zoom in and out, and manually change the focus, several times to make sure the lens is not BINDING (you could hear "rubbing or grinding" noises if it had alignment problems.
Also, TURN OFF THE POWER SWITCH, then tightly grasp the camera in your shooting hand and "wiggle" it and turn it upside down and backwards as you listen for anything that might be "loose" rattling around inside.

Plus... just "pay attention" to the operation of the camera as you continue to use it for awhile.
Maybe some others have a few more ideas for this "physical exam."
