Sony Repair or Third Party?

Both VX1k's are on the fritz and needing some TLC.

One has viewfinder ribbon disease - pretty straightforward. The other is stuck in self-timer mode so I suspect a sticky button. It also has an intermittent momentary sound drop out and needs a few screws. (Have you checked your screws at the tripod mount lately?)

Any advice on getting these guys repaired? Send it to Sony or is there a third-party repair outfit that shold be considered? Does Sony still do repairs for a flat $250?
