Can a mic be damaged by exposure to loud sounds?

I recorded a chamber music concert the other night, and I sadly learned later that the mic was too close to everyone and the sound was distorted, despite low record levels and a medium record signal.
I can record them again, but I am wondering if a mic can actually be damaged by exposure to loud sounds, or being too close and thus causing in-mic clipping. It is a Rode condenser mic.
thanks.
