[Mark Simpson]
"With the video interconnect cables, it gets a little tricky though as it's hard to match the quality marriage of connector to cable that comes from the machine based manufacturing, vs trying to do it by hand.
"
I understand what you mean to say, Mark...
But consider for a moment every military installation, telephone exchange, broadcast TV station, Cable TV operation, Computer Network, TV Network head-end, Satellite remote truck, Sports remote truck, Live-Eye remote van, NASA facility, and Educational TV studio (to name a few)...
Virtually EVERY professional video origination or distribution facility in the world uses hand-built video, audio and data connections... 100's of MILLIONS (BILLIONS?) of individual connectors affixed to standard copper or alloy cables.
And the world actually WORKS and works pretty well!
Sure there are problems in this mind-boggling set of hardware connections, but assuming there would be far fewer (statistically) if the world just over-spent on FROU-FROU wires is just plain silly.
>>>>This post is not directed at individuals who "love their pet wires"... its a primal scream that unscrupulous manufacturers, marketers, and technologically-illiterate sales people (who get $$ spiffs for up-selling) are successfully purveying "Hocu$-Pocu$ Do-dad$" to unsuspecting consumers... who then take it as GOSPEL without any proof.
I make frequent trips to big-box electronics retailers and eavesdrop on "the Pitch" from high-school-aged "experts" who foist these "upgrades" on the unsuspecting shoppers.
Actual pitches like, "Oh yeah... I took these [$60 patch cords] home and my music sounded TWICE as LOUD!" Or, "You can't see the high quality of the DVD unless you use theses [$95] A/V cables."
(They were buying a $40 DVD Player.)
We have ALL heard these in-person, and know that its PIFFLE. (Expensive, dirty-little-secret, PIFFLE!)
It makes me ANGRY. (Well, peeved anyway.)
