If you get a good mic, that is half the battle towards getting good sound. Getting good clean level to tape is the other half. The rest is just icing on the cake.
You need to decide how your interviews are going to be done, and in terms of mics, you basically have 3 options: a handheld, a lavalier, or a shotgun. Each has it's own pro's and con's.
When you do these interviews, are you planning on having your subject in a chair asking him/her questions? Or run and gun type stuff on the street? Will you need to hear your questions and then his/her answers? Your answers will help determine which mic fits you best.
