Great advice, Mark. Thank you very much. I certainly agree with you that the "story" would certainly not be appropriate for an interview situation. I mentioned it here to provide a reason for which I was asking my question. I still have the highest regard for the people involved - I just disagree with them on a few points. =)

I will put some thought to the "formal letter" approach. I've tried that already, to a certain extent, but the way in which I put forth my request was more of a "personal favor" thing rather than a more professional approach. You can bet that I'll be backing up my own work from now on. =)
