One thing about non-competes that I don't think many employers think about is that they can't prevent an employee from working for a competing company once they leave. If they want to willfully stop that employee from working elsewhere, then the employer has to continue to pay their salary. You can't prevent a person from earning a living and if all you know how to do is edit, then they can't stop you from editing elsewhere unless you're compensated.

The labour laws here in Singapore favour the employer in such situations. I've read a number, albeit small, of newspaper articles pertaining to former employees being sued, successfully, by their ex-employers for jumping ship to a competitor. Off course, the ex-employee had knowingly and wilfully signed the employment contract which included the non-compete clause.

Cheers.
