You make a sequence of images that loop, and thenneame them something like: Bird_01.TIF, Bird_02.TIF, Bird_03.TIF...

When you go into the change shape area of the emitter properties, you choose to change the shape ("import shape, but do not add to library" button), and when you navigate to "Bird_01.TIF," pIllusion will ask if you want to use it as a sequence.

Say yes. Viola.
