No, I don't see any difference in quality in the VHS tape, your still limited by the qualities of the tape itself. The benefit to me is only that I can have one deck do multiple tasks. Sad to say, I still get S-VHS dubs occasionally from others to air (SHUDDER--and trust me, my GM and SM have fought about THAT one!) As to title shearing, some if the op didn't set the bars correctly, but nothing as bad as the old UmatSP/Umat problem.

(And as to ancient history, I just got rid of that bloody problem last year!! We were still using that format as our commercial playback system!! Nothing more fun than editing a beautifully shot BETA SP spot, edited through component in at 300Kb in the Media 100 only to dump it down to Umatic SP and watch it playback like a piece of S**t :^)

As to why EP won't work from the S-VHS onto a regular VHS tape? You've got me swinging. Just two weeks ago I had a control op dub have a half dozen VHS tapes for different clients to view. Everyone came back saying that they couldn't view it because it played back a double speed. In the S-VHS deck they played fine, but not in our VHS playback deck. Finally I narrowed it down to the EP mode of the S-VHS deck. Maybe it's just that deck, but that's what was apparently causing it (at least taking it off EP mode fixed the problem :)
