I'm trying to see if NASA can produce informative spots to be used as PSAs by the broadcast stations. If we can, everybody wins. NASA has better public awareness, while the stations can fulfill their requirements.

I was involved with something similar when I was at another NASA center, but these would be promoting NASA in a roundabout sort of way.

The question is "where is the line between raising awareness and promotion"? Would it be best to use the name "NASA" in the title? I think it would definitely help get peoples attention, but we don't want to be flagrant about it.

We don't want to do "ads", just pique curiosity and point people to a website where they can learn more. The website is a government one, so I wouldn't call it for profit, I'd call it "public".

I didn't want to go into details, but for example one spot asks and answers the question "What time is it in space?" Each spot would answer a specific science question as it relates to NASA.

So...they are almost educational, definitely informative, but also a bit promotional.

Our legal department is checking into these types of things (among others) but I thought I could get the "short" answer here. (quicker too!)

Do you think that would be something broadcast stations might be interested in running. How about public television? When I was in broadcast, I would have loved to have something different to run, but then again I was so interested in that kind of stuff that I took a job with NASA :)
