VHS tape and S-VHS ET
by D. Hawk on Dec 11, 2001 at 7:58:40 pm

This may seem like an elementary question to you, but I can't find a straight authoritative answer anywhere else....
Does anybody have experience with S-VHS ET decks? The technology supposedly allows a S-VHS deck to record to either S-VHS or normal VHS tape. The question is, if you record to a normal VHS tape using an S-VHS ET deck, can you then play that tape in a regular consumer grade VCR? Will it ( the typical el cheapo VCR ) know what to do with the extra scan lines? Obviously, I'd like to give my clients the highest quality one-off master they can playback, but the fact is, most of my clients would have consumer grade standard VHS VCRs instead of S-VHS decks. Is S-VHS ET a workable option?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
