Text Around the corner Mini-Tutorial.
by Serge on Apr 25, 2004 at 10:58:04 pm

Hi,
I created the following example for Björn and those who may be interested in making a 2D text fit a 3D perspective.
Here is a rough example using Björn's provided file:
http://www.nyc-visual.com/text_follow.mov
AEP (AE6.0 Invi-Pro:
http://www.nyc-visual.com/text_follow.sit

-First Import your still into Illustrator and use the Pen Tool to trace (on a new layer) the angles you want your text to follow. Give your path a stroke and fill then go to Object>Path>Outline Stroke.

-Next make your still invisible or delete it.

-Invigorator starts mapping its objects at the low left corners so if you want for example that your text start showing at the right side of the building you must position your path accordingly.

-After importing your still into AE create an Invigorator layer and import your ai file to create your object. Keep in mind that you can make your object taller by increasing the Depth value.
Here are the settings I used:

-You must now align your object so it fits your building using the Manipulator Tools and also adjust your lighting.

-Now create a new comp import your text in it (Preferably an ai file as you may have to scale your text in the Y or X axis to compensate the squishing that Invigorator produces when mapping.)Your text should be white on a transparent BG.

-Drag your text comp in the Invigorator composition and assign your text comp as a Layer Map then choose it in the Set-Up window as a Transparency Map.

-Animate your text as you wish. Best would be to work with two composition windows to see the changes you make in your map taking effect in the Invigorator comp window.

-You could duplicate your text comp (Transparency Map) in the footage window alter the color of your text, add some effects etc...then import it in the Invigorator comp to use it as a texture Layer Map if you don't want to use Invigorator own object colors.

OK that's all to it.

Salut
Serge
