To add to this:
You only need the '.xdl' plugins, if you're running CINEMA 4D natively within Mac OS X. If you're running it in Classic mode, you can still use non-native plugins. Fortunately, you can install both the Mac OS 9, as well as X-Versions simultaneously now, with XL 7.1 ;)
