Still many cleanup issues to go, this was sort of my first rendered draft along with the compositing solution.

Believe it or not, my inspiration for this came entirely from the audio realm. I was facinated with the idea of a small gas jet igniting in an explosive, seemingly out of control way. Audio work is easily overlooked but for this I layered glass scrapes, whistles, hums and other time altered sounds to match my artistic "vision" (??). Finding the result rather tastey the rest simply followed from that vein. I'm so happy you found it a bit scarey! Indeed, this was what I was going for. :)
