"Several" streams of HD? Might want to be a little more specific. Even on a dedicated, fully populated XRaid, multiple streams of uncompressed HD is a stretch.

As far as mixing local and SAN XRaids on the same machine, Xsan isn't particularly happy with that approach when the drives are on the same switch. Of course, I suppose multiple fibre cards is a possibility, though I've never tried it.
